FORGE Microlending Project - March 2010

posted 04/21/10 13:59:53 by

Summary of project status and achievements:

Justin continued his yeoman’s work in March. He takes time to visit the farmers every week, advising them on weeding and field preparation. Justin reports that the maize in the fields is almost ready for harvest, requiring only more time to dry before it can be collected.

Progress towards Coordinator’s goals/Trends from indicators:

Although indicators won’t be available until harvest begins in June/July, Justin is confident that his goal of a 95% repayment rate, discussed with the SM in October, is in reach. He is very certain that all farmers are having successful years, understand the terms of their loan, and will gladly repay when the time to collect comes.

Future activities and goals:

Justin wants to team up with Jacob in the month of April to teach a business management workshop. The SM, while encouraged by the desire, is skeptical about the cost of such a workshop at this time, when FMI will have major costs in the upcoming months (truck rental, loading fees and sack purchasing for maize). The SM and the coordinator will sit down in the coming weeks to see if such a program is possible.
