Summary of Project Status:
This month The Women’s Centre concluded the 8 week outreach program with a graduation for all 32 women. The women performed skits based on the information they learned over the course. Also, during World Refugee Day, the women from the outreach program were invited to perform the skits they created for the crowd. It went well and they were very entertaining!
In addition to the women’s group at Road 12, the savings circle continued for Road 11 women. This savings circle takes place Tuesday and Thursday from 10 -12. There are 25 women participating in the savings circle. This month the women met on their own each week and Jacqueline visited them to make sure they understood the concept and are following the curriculum.
Angela Kawewe has joined the Women’s Centre staff as an intern of sorts. She is studying Nutrition and Women’s Studies at University in Solwezi and is doing her practicum/attachment for her course with the Women’s Centre. She is teaching an advanced tailoring class for 10 women on Monday, Wednesday and Thursdays at Rd. 26 and is being supervised by the Project Manager and staff.
Annita and Dyness facilitated a Nutrition and Childcare workshop in Block H. There were 21 participants, 9 men and 12 women.
English classes for women started again in the last week of the month and the women told the staff they would be attending regularly in their last month (July).
English classes for youth also continued although attendance was still low, July is the last month for both English Classes and then the staff has planned a more strict policy of attendance.
Both savings circles continued at Rd. 26 and all the participants except one have been attending regularly. In total there are 28 participants in the savings circles (16 and 12).
The upcoming month we will start a new outreach program at Rd. 44, Dyness and Annita will facilitate while Jacqueline and Florinda work at the centre and supervise the English classes and Savings Circles.
