Summary of project status and achievements:
The Outreach Workshop ended the last week of this month. The Women’s Centre held a graduation ceremony on June 27th in which the participants displayed their sewing/knitting and performed skits with the information they learned from the workshop. The new Outreach is being planned for an area in Block B with women who have never before taken a class with the Women’s Centre. It is tentatively scheduled to begin in the first week of August. The women are also planning an SGBV 4-day workshop in the last week of July.
Additionally, the savings circles are all running well. One woman from the Friday Savings Circle is repatriating so the money she saved is being returned to her. Road-44 and Block H Savings Circles are still on hold and will resume when and if the women of those communities decide they are ready. Jacqui and Annita check back every couple of weeks.
Future activities and projections:
Dinah will begin working full-time as of July 1st. She will teach the next Outreach Workshop with either Jacqui or Annita so that she can be trained in knitting and sewing instruction. The third staff member will stay at the Centre to teach 4-day workshops, run the Savings Circles and be available for informal counseling. The next Outreach workshop will register 30 women – 15 for knitting, 15 for tailoring.
