Summary of project status and achievements:
This month, the Project Manager hired a new employee to work at the Women’s Centre. Florinda is now unlikely to return from Lusaka, as no one has heard from her in over a month, so Dinah, our new addition, started working part-time in Florinda’s place in mid-March. Dinah and Annita are running the Women’s Centre together until Jacqui, the Project Coordinator, returns from maternity leave on April 15th.
The Women’s Centre held a 4-day workshop on Reproductive Health this month. Eight community members attended, and all completed the course. The 8-week Outreach Workshop also completed at the end of this month. The women held a graduation where they exhibited their knitting work and acted out a skit based on information they had learned. This course also had a 100% completion rate.
The Road 44 Savings Circle has not yet started, as the women at Road 44 are still busy cultivating. Annita checks in every Friday with the Road 44 chairman to see if the women are ready to begin yet. She is hopeful they will begin in early April. Additionally, the Women’s Centre staff will return to Block H in April to start a Savings Circle with the women from the last Outreach Workshop. All other Savings Circles are running well.
Future activities and projections:
Next month, we plan on holding another 4-day workshop, most likely on Childcare and Nutrition. The next 8-week Outreach Workshop will also start towards the end of April, and will be held for women in Roads 29-34. Registration for this workshop will be first come, first serve, on April 6th, and only women that have never before enrolled in a Women’s Centre workshop are eligible. Once started, the classes will be held at a church at Road 29.
