Meheba Women's Center - August 2008

posted 09/08/08 17:49:02 by

Summary of project status and achievements:

This month, sewing and knitting classes began at Road 44, the vulnerable community. Thirty women are participating – 15 in the sewing class and 15 in the knitting class. Classes are held on Monday and Tuesday, and workshops are held Wednesday and Thursday. So far, workshops have covered SGBV and Reproductive Health.

The savings circles continue to progress. The oldest one has reached the one year mark, so the women divided up the money at the end of the month. They decided to sign up again and continue saving. The other two circles are functioning well.

Two informal counseling cases were recorded this month.

The English classes attracted no participants, so they have been suspended.

A workshop on Reproductive Health was given at the Women’s Centre from August 19 - 21. A majority of the 15 participants were male.

The staff has been informed about the demographic breakdown for the indicators and statistics, so next month’s report should reflect this.

Future Activities and Projections:

The sewing and knitting classes will end at the end of September, and the Women’s Centre will decide where next to target. Childcare and Nutrition will be the next workshop topic.

The women at Road 44, where the current sewing and knitting classes are held, would like to start a savings circle, so a start up workshop will be held and the circle will be initiated in September.

The PM will work with the staff to promote the informal counseling component of the Centre. Informing RAI and FHS advocates that they can refer counseling cases to the Centre may help raise the numbers.

The PM will work with the staff to collect the required statistics for Centre activities and to design monitoring and evaluation tools.

Substantial problems or issues:

Staffing issues have been an obstacle. We are working through these issues.

Bicycle problems have continued to plague the Women’s Centre. Women’s Centre bicycles seem to encounter more problems than those of other programs.
