Summary of project status and achievements:
PECT’s attendance has stabilized in the past month and the teachers are happy with the way the class is progressing. The students have now moved onto Microsoft Publisher. In addition, every student has paid in full for the first program, with 100,000 zmk collected for the project (represented in the E.M.). The SM is encouraged by the payment, which can hopefully be used to augment future PECT costs.
Currently, PECT students are working on making brochures in Publisher. Jean and Odilla are teaching them about layout and students are already proficient with clip art. The teachers are very excited with their progress.
Progress towards Coordinator’s goals/Trends from Indicators:
PECT continues its theoretical work towards bringing internet to Meheba. Currently the coordinators and SM, with the assistance of Linda, are working to expand the work we completed in December on a survey to gage interest in an internet café within the Meheba community.
Future activities and goals:
In April, the teachers and the SM hope to test out the feasibility of internet within Meheba, testing potential sites at in ‘C’, ‘D’, and ‘A’. If positive results are received, a final copy of the Taft Refugee grant will be submitted for US State Department approval.
Wishes or Requests:
PECT is badly in need of new computers. Currently there is only 1 (ONE) machine operating. The teachers are working furiously to repair the machines themselves, but are urgently requesting new machines.
We are attempting to coordinate with Lusaka to use the Toughbooks as a band-aid solution, but they are virus ridden and need to be wiped.
Substantial problems or issues:
Many of PECT’s computers aren’t operational.
By Jeremy SimonI am a refugee from Congo since 1997 present in Meheba and my coming I never find this opportunity of studying computer but I am very happy and pride of attending this course with because of FORGE PECT.
What have observe is PECT is huge also to empower refugees in Meheba by providing computer training and the real opportunities in all having that privilidige.
That why we are appreciating FORGE and PECT and our instructors Jean and Odilla and the PM. Continue to do the same.
PECT has been facing lots of challenges in terms of power for many years. But actually the FORG/PECT management has supplied us with two big solar panels and two new batteries. That’s very good for our project.
Therefore, the arrangement of the power system in PECT has attracted our students to be coming everyday to attend lessons because there is no excuses of power from the PECT instructors.
That is why we are very much pride for having a stable attendance in this intake compared to the past.
Peace be with you all!!!
By Odila M.Summary of project status and achievements:
Due to events at 36, PECT has been forced to juggle its students a bit. Four students were taken away from the class by the protest and they have been replaced by Jean and Odila. Both teachers have been working hard to ensure the class hasn’t been negatively effected. The students have progressed with Microsoft Word and Jean and Odila are impressed with their skills.
Future activities and projections:
Class will continue as normal in March, with graduation scheduled for May.

By Jeremy SimonSummary of project status and achievements:
In January, PECT continued its first intake for 2010. On 12 February, Jean and Odila will complete the initial stages of computer training, and on the 15th they will move into Microsoft Word.
Future activities and projections:
In the next few weeks, Jean and Odila will make a push to ensure all students pay the necessary fees for PECT. All students who are enrolled have promised to pay, but have yet to do so. The SM hopes that with the beginning of the programs stage of the course (Word, PowerPoint etc) the students will make more of an effort to pay the fees they promised.
Indicators and statistics:
Please see M&E spreadsheet.
Substantial problems or issues:
PECT is experiencing a problem with its computers. Jean and Odila have been forced to use their own personal computer in the course. Currently we are running two mostly functioning computers, and using a third which lacks Microsoft Office, for the remainder of the class. The SM has taken an inventory of computers which will be attached in a separate email.

By Jeremy SimonSummary of project status and achievements:
In December, PECT completed its community internet survey and determined that there was an overwhelming demand by the Meheba community for internet. In addition, the PECT staff posted fliers to advertise for applications for its computer class. More than 40 people applied. Interviews were held on the 12th of January.
Future activities and projections:
18 students were selected on 12 January for the next four month computer class. A fee of 10,000 per program will be charged, with the hopes that this eases PECTs transition to sustainability.
